Cheesy Cauli Broccoli Bake

When I say cozy comfort food, this is it! Creamy sauce, soft veggies, and melted cheese all baked together until golden and bubbly. It’s the kind of side dish that even broccoli skeptics can’t resist!

Ingredients

Serves 4

🥦 1 large broccoli, cut into pieces
🌼 1 large cauliflower, cut into pieces
🧀 1 ½ cups grated cheese blend (cheddar + mozzarella work great!)

For the sauce:

🧈 4 tbsp butter
🌾 3 tbsp plain flour
🥛 500 ml milk
🧂 1 tsp salt & pepper
🧅 1 tsp onion powder
🧄 1 tsp garlic powder
🧀 ½ cup grated cheese blend

Directions

  1. Preheat your oven to 190 °C / 375 °F.
  2. Boil broccoli and cauliflower pieces in salted water for 4–5 minutes until just tender.
  3. Drain them very well — this step is important so your bake doesn’t get watery.
  4. Make the sauce:
    • Melt butter in a saucepan.
    • Whisk in flour and cook 1 minute.
    • Gradually add milk, whisking constantly until thickened.
    • Stir in salt, pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, and ½ cup cheese.
  5. Combine: Add drained veggies to a baking dish and pour the cheesy sauce all over.
  6. Top with the remaining cheese blend.
  7. Bake for 20–25 minutes until the top is bubbly and golden brown.
